A vibrant, character-led launch film for BBC Children in Need that used bold animation and spoken-word storytelling to inspire a new generation of SPOTacular fundraisers.
Challenge
BBC Children in Need needed a launch film for its SPOTacular fundraising campaign that could inspire people of all ages across the UK to get involved. The challenge was to create an inclusive, energetic campaign that appealed to a broad audience – particularly younger people – while celebrating the joy of fundraising and communicating the life-changing impact of the charity's work.
Solution
I directed this bold, character-led film built around a spoken-word script performed by Lady Leshurr. With the Flow team we created a vibrant graphic world inspired by comic books, using halftone textures, expressive line work and a playful colour palette to bring the campaign's iconic spots to life. Through energetic animation, dynamic transitions and moments of surprise, the film transformed the simple act of fundraising into a joyful visual celebration that reflected the optimism and diversity of communities across the UK.
Result
The film launched the SPOTacular campaign across broadcast, social media and paid digital channels, supported by a series of cut-downs that helped build excitement ahead of the annual appeal. More than a campaign launch, it established a distinctive visual identity for SPOTacular, using animation and storytelling to inspire participation, broaden the campaign's appeal and reinforce the positive impact that fundraising has on children and young people across the UK.
